The opposition serves only one purpose, to refine you and make you greater! Opposition does not possess the capacity to destroy you!
It’s amazing the anxiety that is provoked when we face situations and circumstances of opposition. There is this expectation that life should be trouble free, and this entitlement perspective that many have adopted, has lead to the belief that adversity is not normal, and that life should give one everything they want and more. Opposition, has reshaped lives, ended careers, destroyed relationships, and contributed to the pandemic of negative self concept and low self-esteem. The question is why? Does opposition really possess this much power? The power to tear down relationships and accomplishments that took decades to create and build? Does opposition really have the power to shift your atmosphere so much so, that it causes you to question the very foundation on which you now stand, and the foundation on which you were created? I posit today, that it is not opposition, but our understanding of opposition wherein lies the problem. What would happen if we changed our perception regarding opposition, viewing it from there perspective of a challenge and test that is preparational in intent, and will allow us to refine self and our core concepts, so that we as individuals grow beyond measure.
Those closest to you are those who hurt you, and can provide the greatest degree of opposition.
Remembering that it wasn’t strangers that threw Joseph in the pit, it was his brothers.
It was not the unbelievers that called for the crucifixion of Jesus, it was the leaders- Pharisees, Saducees, and the religious leaders of that day, and those who were guised as friends.
As soon as Jesus assignment was revealed and the heavens rolled back and the dove descended and God announced “this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased”, His enemy was revealed. The opposition or shall I say TEST began, and He was led into the desert to be tempted. When your assignment is revealed, so is your enemy. The opposition strengthens when you are walking in your calling and preparing for elevation. When you see the enemy, when you see opposition, that means this season is coming to a close and you are about to enter a new season. The enemy is an indicator that God is planning movement.
Is there something to be gained from opposition? Yes, strength, courage, and the effective ability to problem solve and persevere.
Does opposition possess the capacity to threaten your destiny? No, but your response to the opposition can possess a lasting impact and alter the timing and intensity of your role when you arrive.
We must view opposition from a perseverance and strengths based perspective knowing that my ability to pass this test will provide me with preparational lessons that will benefit me for years to come.
The answer to opposition is not always easy. However, with the right mindset and a clear understanding of the purpose of opposition, we can tailor our responses for our benefit. Answering opposition requires five essential ingredients: Prayer, Self-Analysis, Obedience, Perseverance, and Self-Control.
-In prayer the opposition is revealed as God always seeks to prepare His children. The goal here is to be attentive and listen!
-When Self-Analyzing, one is able to discern the role opposition will play in not only their lives, but the lives of others around them. Self- Analysis also affords you with the opportunity of weighing your options to a variety of tactics from the enemy, so that you can tailor your response in advance.
-When, through discernment you prepare and weigh the options before you, you can then seek to obey God’s desired response for you in the season of opposition. Truly, many who respond negatively do so out of lack of preparation, and lack of self control. When you are prepared, your arsenal becomes more diverse, and your choices aligned with the exemplary power to honor God even in the midst of your circumstances.
-When you are obedient, you are able to persevere or outlast the enemy. Why, because your reinforcement, your motivation, and your dedication is to almighty God. He will prepare you to outlast any opposition you may face. He will also give you the ability and agility to dodge many of the traps and snares set before you because through your spiritual eye, you can see what is invisible to the naked eye.
-Self Control is listed last but is certainly not the least. These five essentials began with prayer, but are propped and maintained by self control. While you may not possess the power to control anyone else, GOD and YOU are the only ones who possess the power to dictate your behavioral responses unless you relinquish the power and control. Remembering this, you must never freely give away the keys that open the door to your life, your thoughts, and your behaviors. These keys must be tightly grasped, and visible to only those with whom you trust. Keys include your passions, convictions, dreams, life goals, and triggers that promote feelings of anger. If you expose these, the enemy will use them to penetrate your environment, intrude your privacy, dismantle your comfort zone, and take over your life.
There are also times when the ability to ignore is essential. Assessment of the time dedicated to opposition is the key, as time is valuable and must not be wasted on senseless distractions. We are to be distracted by our future and not distracted by meaningless things that do not deserve attention.
Matt 10:16-17; 19 states; Look, I am sending you out as a sheep among wolves; so be shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves. But beware of men, for they will deliver you over to the courts and flog you in their synagogues. When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour.
Opposition will come. False accusations, plot, plans, and pre-prepped graves will be the fate of men for you. We must then remember,
They don’t hate you, they hate the God in you. They hate that you have favor!
They don’t hate you, they hate what God is doing for you!
Its not about you, its about the God in you..
But he who endures until the end will be saved. Endure in prayer! Endure with self control! Endure, PERSEVERE in Obedience! Endure until the end of this test, and you will find yourself crossing the Jordan into your promised destination!
